The older generation enjoys a game of cards on a regular basis, whether it be poker, gin rummy, bunko or any other type of card game. Many times the elderly will wager small stakes just for fun. However sometimes the police do not see the games as friendly and decide to make arrests for gambling.

This is exactly what happened recently in Cyprus. Forty two elderly women were enjoying gin rummy and poker when they were arrested during a home card game raid. The age ranges of the women was from seventy five to ninety five and less than one hundred pence was confiscated.

The amount being wagered was just small change but yet the police force still felt they needed to arrest the women. the oldest woman, age ninety five was taken to jail, booked and then released. All of the women have to appear in court to defend their game play. the women will most likely have to pay a small fine but jail time is also a possibility.

"It is unbelievable that people would even complain about such a game,"s aid Mary Grattler, when referring to the complaints from neighbors that the game was creating a stir in the neighborhood, "If police around the world start busting up gin rummy games, there are going to be a lot of elderly people heading to jail."
